Free Travel for Military Personnel
Cardiff Bus is offering free travel to those who have served in the armed forces to commemorate Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday.
Customers who are travelling on Thursday 11th November and Sunday 14th November and are dressed in military uniform or can provide proof of serving in the forces will be allowed to travel for free (excluding Park & Ride).
Those with an All Wales Concessionary Travel Card will still need to validate this on the bus ticket machine.
The bus operator is running the free travel offer to honour and pay tribute to the sacrifices made by local servicemen and women.
Gareth Stevens, Commercial Director at Cardiff Bus, said: “Many of our customers and staff have service personnel amongst their friends and family who will be travelling to various Remembrance events this week, and we are proud to be able to support them with free travel.
“We wanted to show a small token of our gratitude for their years of service and play a part in remembering those who have been lost in action.”
Additionally, at 11am on Thursday the 11th November and again at 11am on Sunday 14th November, drivers will stop buses where appropriate and pause for 2 minutes to show their support for the national silence, in remembrance of those who lost their lives fighting for their country.
Gareth Stevens added: “Drivers across the whole of our network will be stopping for 2 minutes where safe to do so as a mark of respect to those killed or injured in the defense of their country.”
Diversions will be in place in Penarth, Barry, Rumney, Radyr, Whitchurch and Old St Mellons due to remembrance Sunday events, details of diversions are available on our Service Updates page.
